Members of the church elected by the congregation to serve the ministries of the church. Presbyterian elders are both elected and ordained. Through ordination they are officially set apart for service. They retain their ordination beyond their 3 year term in office.
Who do they serve?
They are representatives of the other members of the congregation but their primary charge is to seek to discover and represent the will of Christ as they govern.
What is the session?
The group of elders is called a session. Ministers who serve the congregation are also part of the session. They meet on the 3rd tuesday of each month. Meetings are open to the congregation.
New members join both the session and the board of deacons in February and formally take over in March.
