Spotlight on Mission

Where do your mission dollars go? One recipient is the Carmichael Food Closet which lightens the burden of the hungry in our community.  More and more people need to use the food closet in these hard economic times. In the last year the Carmichael Food Closet served 17,510 people providing 157,590 meals for 3,991 families. This is an increase of 11% from the previous year. The total expenses for these services were $10,004 which is a 30% increase from the year before. Our donations of canned goods and mission funds go a long way to assist the Carmichael Food Closet in their mission of providing food for those who need it.

Another mission fund recipient is FIRM, Inc., the Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries. They serve Southeast Asian, Slavic and Ethiopian refugee families. Their services include a Hmong Health collaborative, a healthy homes program, elder help, help with job skills and employment, a preschool program for children three to five years of age, family support, and English and citizenship classes. Their neighborhood ministries plan events in which children from refugee neighborhoods come together for summer youth festivals. They also organize holiday and weekend gatherings for refugee families.

Crop Walk - Raising funds for local hunger-fighting agencies and around the world.
Good news from this year's Wak for Hunger. Celtic Cross was 1st place in the amount of donations collected, $4,188. Many thanks to all who participated in this very worthy event and for the generous support of the sponsors. We don't have the figures for the 10 top walkers yet, however, we'll be having a recognition gathering, planned for May, and all walkers, sponsors and interested parties will be invited and encouraged to attend. Further details TBA. The Grand Total for the Sacramento Area CROP Walk was $43,140.32. For further information, call Pat Linville, 635-1649.
