May Messages
Jesus, we can expect a challenge.

 4    “Unstoppable” -  Acts 5: 17-42

Jerusalem's religious leaders threatened the apostles because they rejected their teachings about Christ. Yet even in the face of danger, God preserved his people and made sure his work was accomplished. The same is true today: as long as the church is faithful to the message of the gospel, God will preserve his people and accomplish his goals.   It will not be easy, but we can persevere if we trust the Holy Spirit as the earliest disciples did.

 11      “Esther - A Vision for Life”

Thousands were blessed because one man was willing to name the reality for a young woman, and that young woman said no to  safety, security and wealth, and yes to following God to the point of giving her life.   This Mother’s Day come hear about the woman who saved many out of her unselfish desire to be obedient to God.

18      “Joseph – How to Use the Gift of Reconciliation”

Joseph’s story in Genesis shows us a picture of healing in broken relationships through confession and repentance and the expression of forgiveness.  What this means is that resentment, hostility, judgment, superiority, suspicion, withdrawal— are not options for us any more.   If we trust God’s promise we will experience his grace and mercy in ways we never thought possible.

25     “Nehemiah - Difference Makers Bring Joy”

After the wall is finished, the people gather together with the dream of the Promised Land alive again.  When the people hear the Law, they experience a Holy Discontent as they look at the walls broken down in their own lives.  Nehemiah says that the bottom line is not our brokenness.  It is the good news that God is our God, and that he loves us.

What is Celtic Cross missing?  A slogan: a short, memorable phrase which captures the spirit of who we are as a congregation.  The Celtic Cross Strategic Planning Team invites you to submit ideas.  The slogan should be one sentence or phrase which can be placed on the bulletin and used in outreach materials and promotions.

All ideas will be considered as input in developing a Celtic Cross slogan.  We’d love to have your feedback about what a good slogan might be.  Please send your ideas to Tracy Wiltshire at LDWILTSHIRE@hotmail.com or put ideas in Tracy’s Elder box in the Church Office.  Please submit your entries by May 25.  Thanks.

Mother’s Day Weekend

Plan to begin your Mother's Day spring weekend with an evening of beautiful music at Celtic Cross on Friday, May 9, 2008.  The Sacramento Valley Concert Choir, a community choir of adults who have been performing for many years in the Sacramento area, will be in concert at our church.  Broadway tunes, spirituals and mixed singing groups will be included in the one-hour program that will be followed with an audience sing along.  There will also be refreshments provided by the Argonaut Mariners.  If you enjoyed Touchstone's motion picture, "Sister Act," you won't want to miss the performance of "Hail Holy Queen" that was originally directed by Whoopi Goldberg in that movie.  All church members, family and friends are cordially invited to enjoy a musical evening. A freewill donation to the choir will be available following the program.  This upbeat event will surely add to the happiness of your Mother's Day weekend plans, so mark your calendar now for the 7:30 p.m. special concert
